A COMPLICATED LOVE - LESSONS FROM A ROAD TRIP

A COMPLICATED LOVE

A STRAIGHT FATHER, A GAY SON AND LESSONS FROM A ROAD TRIP

A Complicated Love is a true story about the relationship I had with Jared, my son. I will share with you the fears, taboos and judgments that I had about gay people and the insights that came about as we communicated with each other on our road trip.

Our road trip took us through Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, Canada. Our conversations were honest, revealing and at times they were heated. We talked for five days.

My hope is that this keynote or presentation will invite real engagment with your son or daughter or a member of your family who is gay.

Based on the needs of your group, we can explore some or all of the following:
· Our cultural stories and the assumptions about same sex relationships
· Research on sexual orientation
· The downside of fear and prejudice
· The role that religion plays in our thinking
· Breaking limiting patterns from the past
· Coming out as a parent
· Coming out from religion
· The healing power of dialogue and authentic emotional connection
